Belén is a small town in the Salto Department of northwestern Uruguay. It is located on the mouth of the stream Arroyo Yacuy, on the banks of Uruguay River, northwest of Arapey and north of Salto. Its status was elevated to "Pueblo" (town) category on 7 May 1862 by decree Ley No. 705.
In 2004, it has a population of 2,030 people.[1]
